That's when things began to turn around—literally and figuratively. I was edging my way south from LA toward San Diego when my husband called. He had finally boarded his flight and was making his last call before takeoff. I was instantly calmed and excited for him. He told me that I had no business driving back to Arizona that night and that if it wasn’t LA, I needed to stay somewhere close and rest. He was right. It was an overwhelming sense of calm that washed away the day’s stress. The low-tide drive, the salty air, and the sheer relief of having a new destination led to a quick Expedia reservation, pulling me off the main road and into the quaint town of San Clemente.

The moment I arrived at the Casa Blanca Inn, I knew I’d found something special. The warm reception and the cozy, salt-air freshness of the hotel were an immediate balm to my frazzled nerves. I learned my booking would include one of their newly renovated deluxe rooms. I noticed they also had rooms with balconies that still carried the original design, awaiting renovation. Nevertheless, they were sold out. I met a young bride in the lobby. Her new husband, a Marine, stood patiently in the courtyard in full uniform. An adorable couple had a block of rooms reserved for the wedding party and now needed an additional room for the newlyweds. They were truly a charming couple with a destination wedding, and I learned there was a base nearby. After check-in, I was followed by an older couple. I would highly recommend this short getaway for couples, so much so that I would return with my husband. I would obtain all of the pictures I missed walking around in the evening.
